Description: “Quest”, 1968 Tartan 34C, hull #31 for sale.

I purchased Quest last year as a project and eventual retirement plan, and was flying down regularly from MY home in canada to work on her. Unfortunately with the drop in the price of oil, and therefore the loss of my job and fall of the Canadian dollar, I am no longer able to continue the project.

Quest was originally owned by Mac, a Naval Commander until his death. After he passed away at 99 (08/13), his widow kept Quest for another year and 1/2 while looking for the right person to keep her local and restore her to her former glory. Fortunately, for those three years, Quest was moored at a floating dock in brackish water and the bottom was cleaned regularly. The damage done during this time was a badly moldy interior, very minor rot in the toe rails and badly alligatored deck paint. No leaks below the water line, some minor dripping from the deck. This can be fixed when wooden handrails are reattached and sealed. Mold is mainly from Florida humidity.

She was then sold to Steven, Who had her for a year and completed significant electrical and other work on her. Until he was unable to continue financially.

Quest is rock solid. No blisters. No soft spots. Cockpit icebox hatch and small lazarette hatch need replacement. Top and bottom paint was done 6 months ago although the topside could use one more coat for a smoother finish. The interior needs paint, varnish, new headliner, and head remodel. The ice box is a little beat-up. It’s all really not that big of a project.

Asking $6500 or best offer

Equipment: Standing rigging is old but good, running needs replacing. Gemini roller furler. Stem head fitting has broken off, have a contact to get a replacement which should cost no more than a few hundred dollars.Good, but old sail inventory. 3 spinnakers, 1 staysail and 4 genoas (probably 2 good ones). Has a workable main, but it ain’t pretty.

Atomic 4 is a Moyer Marine rebuild installed in early 2007. All fuel lines were replaced 2 years ago, water separator/filter, fuel pump and rebuilt the carburator. Also rebuilt the starter, alternator, water pump and ignition. New raw water filter. The engine runs great. Prop is a folding type in perfect condition.

Centerboard works just fine, and was scraped clean and painted when bottom was done.

Has central air conditioning, but needs new water pump which should cost roughly $150.00. Also comes with portable air conditioner/dehumidifier unit for use while docked.

Head needs rebuilding and there has never been a holding tank. Not a pressurized system.

New 120 VAC system 98% complete, just needs another couple of outlets installed forward of the mast. Batteries are 1 year old, but have been constantly maintained with an installed ProMariner smart charger. The 12 volt system has been partially removed, but has been replaced for the two new high quality and appropriately sized bilge pumps. (The larger pump is controlled by an “Ultra Pumpswitch Senior”.) Bilge blower is new.

Comes with new 10’ sit on top kayak.
